Automated Databases Consisting Predominantly of Photographs

The Copyright Office has amended its regulations governing the deposit requirements for applications for automated databases that consist predominantly of photographs. As of August 8, 2012, the regulation requires that the deposit include the image of each photograph in which copyright is claimed, in addition to material relating to the claim in compilation authorship. The amendment provides a better public record by identifying the scope of the copyright claim. It also aligns the deposit requirements for such databases with the deposit requirements for published or unpublished photographs registered as a single work or as a group of published photographs.
