Suggested Format for Recordation of Distinctive Identification of Owner of Vessel Hull Designs

The authority for requesting the information sought in this suggested format for recordation of a distinctive identification of an owner of vessel hull designs is 17 U.S.C. §1306. Regulations governing recordation of distinctive identifications of owners of vessel hull designs are found at 37 C.F.R. §212.5. Furnishing the information is voluntary, but if you do not furnish the information you may be deprived of the right to use your distinctive identification in place of your name in the design notice on a vessel hull. The principal use of the requested information is to identify distinctive identifications of owners of vessel hull designs which may be used in design notices affixed to vessel hulls. The information provided will be available for public inspection and copying in the Copyright Office and available for viewing on the Copyright Office’s website.

The Copyright Office does not routinely acknowledge receipt of recordations of distinctive identifications. The information submitted should appear on the Copyright Office website within a few weeks of submission. Submitters who wish to received confirmation of receipt of a recordation of a distinctive identification should enclosed a stamped, self-addressed postcard, which will be returned.
