U.S. Copyright Office Issues Proposed Rule Relating to Group Registration of Newsletters
Issue No. 799 - February 24, 2020

The U.S. Copyright Office has published in the Federal Register a proposed rule that would amend its regulations for the group registration of newsletters.

The regulation currently states that newsletters must be published at least twice a week to qualify for this option. Many newsletters are published just once a week; therefore, the Office proposes to amend its regulations to eliminate this requirement. The proposed rule will permit publishers to submit claims for a month of newsletters, even if the newsletter is published as infrequently as twice a month.

In addition, the Office proposes to amend its regulations to update the address where complimentary subscription copies should be sent for purposes of satisfying the mandatory deposit requirement for newsletters and other types of serial publications. For more information, visit copyright.gov.
