Copyright Office Extends Time for Section 710 Declarants to Submit Deposits

Issue No. 945 - February 3, 2022

The Register of Copyrights today issued a declaration extending the time period for applicants who filed electronic applications with declarations pursuant to section 710 of the Copyright Act to submit their deposits to the Copyright Office. For applicants who filed electronic applications and declarations on or before December 31, 2021, deposits must now be received by March 31, 2022, in order for their requests to be acted upon. Pursuant to the authority granted under section 710 of the Copyright Act (enacted as part of the CARES Act), the Register had previously determined that adjustments were necessary due to pandemic-related disruptions to the copyright system, and had allowed adjustments of certain timing provisions under the Copyright Act. These adjustments expired at the end of the day on December 31, 2021. This extension does not affect any other timing adjustment.
